Deep Clean vs. General Clean: Which One Does Your Space Actually Need?

June 10, 2026 Alamo Bot Cleaners

When someone calls us for the first time, the conversation usually starts the same way: "I'm not sure if I need a deep clean or just a regular one." It's a fair question, because cleaning companies use both terms loosely, and the price difference is real. So here is exactly what we mean by each, and how to decide.

A general clean is a complete, careful pass through every room of a home or office that is already reasonably kept up. Surfaces are dusted and wiped, the kitchen counters, stovetop, sink and appliance exteriors are cleaned, the bathrooms are scrubbed and sanitized, mirrors are done, trash is emptied, and every floor is vacuumed and mopped. It takes a few hours for a typical house and it leaves the space genuinely clean — not tidied, clean.

What a general clean does not do is go after buildup. It works around the baseboards rather than wiping them by hand. It cleans the microwave's outside but not its inside. It doesn't get up on a step stool for the ceiling fans, or pull the range hood filter, or scrub grout, or slide the window open to vacuum the track. Those are deep-clean tasks, and they're what separates the two.

A deep clean starts high and works down. Ceiling fans, light fixtures and vents are dusted first, so nothing falls on a surface that's already been done. Then the detail work: door frames, baseboards and trim wiped by hand; cabinet fronts, backsplash and range hood degreased; inside the microwave; the exterior of the oven and refrigerator detailed; showers and tubs scrubbed for soap scum and the hard-water spotting that San Antonio's water leaves on everything; window sills, tracks and blinds cleaned. Floors are done last. A deep clean on a four-bedroom home can take most of a day.

So which one do you need? Our rule of thumb is simple. If the space has had a professional clean in the last month or two and has been kept up in between, a general clean is the right call. If it has been more than a couple of months — or it has never had one, or there's been a renovation, a long illness, a new baby, a new tenant, or just a very busy year — start with a deep clean.

The reason is practical, not a sales pitch. A general clean on a space with real buildup either takes far longer than quoted or leaves the buildup in place, and neither is a good outcome. A deep clean resets the space to a baseline, and from there a general clean every week or two actually keeps it there.

That's the pattern most of our recurring customers follow, homes and offices alike: one deep clean to start, then a general clean on a schedule. The deep clean is the bigger job and the bigger bill, once — and if it's your first service with us, it's 15% off. The general cleans that follow are quicker and cheaper because there's nothing to catch up on.

If you're still not sure, tell us about the space. We'll ask a few questions — when it was last cleaned, how many bathrooms, pets, whether the kitchen gets heavy use — and we'll tell you honestly which one it needs. Call or text (786) 740-9357.
